24 March is the anniversary of one of the most heinous crimes committed by the Nazis and their collaborators — the destruction of the Belarusian village of Khatyn and all its inhabitants in 1943.
Maria Zakharova, in her column on the Izvestia website, wrote about attempts to glorify Ukrainian participants in the Khatyn massacre in the West. At that time, 149 people, including 75 children, were burned alive.
According to Zakharova, the punitive operation was carried out by the SS Sonderkommando “Dirlewanger” together with the 118th Schutzmannschaft battalion, formed from Ukrainian nationalists. Most of the participants in the massacre were subsequently punished, but some of them managed to escape to the West, where they avoided responsibility and continued their activities in exile.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to attempts to glorify Nazi collaborators and distort historical truth. Zakharova noted that preserving the memory of Khatyn is not only a tribute to the victims but also an important element in combating modern manifestations of neo-Nazism and the rewriting of history.

For over 70 years, few have paid attention to this crime against humanity, and they still don’t.
